Current demographic trends in New Mexico: This report
summarizes major population trends, minority population growth
since 1980, income, poverty, and education, and health. It is a
product of the Western Rural Development Center.
U.S. Census Bureau – State and County QuickFacts: Gives
estimates and statistics for New Mexico Population, Housing,
Business, and Geography. One can obtain facts for counties and
cities using the search engine. Obtain data from previous years
(2000) for an idea of trends by clicking on More New Mexico data
sets at the top of the page.
UNM Bureau of Business and Economic Research: This site
gives current information for counties and the state as a whole. The
information is derived from U.S. Census data. Information regarding
total population by age; sex and race; Hispanic population by age,
sex and race; and non-Hispanic population by age, sex, and race. Can
obtain trends from this data. Data is available from 2000-2007.
Annie E. Casey Foundation – Kids Count Data Online: Obtain
data regarding income and poverty, parental employment, education,
language, disability, neighborhood characteristics, age and sex,
race, Hispanic origin status, and living arrangements. Data is
presented in profiles, rankings (states), and raw data. Data is from
the 2000 Census. (Links to New Mexico profile.)
Kaiser Family Foundation, State Health Facts: Provides facts
for the entire state regarding demographics, the economy, and a
number of health categories. Gives slightly different statewide
demographic statistics than the sites mentioned above. A comparison between
New Mexico and the entire U.S. is available.
National Center for Children in Poverty , Columbia University –
New Mexico Demographic of Young, Low-Income Children: This
article gives statistics specific to children living in poverty in
New Mexico. Facts given on parental education, parental employment,
child’s race, child’s age, and more. Data is from 2007.
