Amphion Foundation: Performing Ensembles

The Amphion Foundation’s grant program objective is to encourage the performance of contemporary concert music, particularly by American composers, through support to performing and presenting organizations that have demonstrated sustained artistic excellence, in addition to service organizations and other organizations that support contemporary music.

The current grant opportunity is for performing ensembles such as orchestras, opera companies, and chamber music groups with a consistent core membership, as well as ”flexible” ensembles with consistent artistic leadership and identity, are considered performing ensembles. Dance companies are also eligible to apply for projects that involve live performances of contemporary concert music. Orchestras and opera companies that do not specialize in contemporary music are only eligible to apply for project support.

Amount: Grants typically range from $1,000-$7,500, although larger grants may be awarded to larger performing organizations with an extraordinary commitment to contemporary concert music or a particularly significant project.

Eligibility: Applications may be submitted by publicly supported non-profit performing ensembles that have a history of substantial commitment to contemporary concert music at a high level of excellence. Organizations must have been in existence for at least two years. Applicants that are applying for support for performances must have presented two full seasons prior to the season for which support is requested, except for special projects of extraordinary significance. Applications from organizations with a budget of over $10 million will be considered only for special project support. Note that proposals are accepted from amateur choral ensembles and youth choirs performing contemporary classical music at an exceptionally high artistic level. See guidelines for additional eligibility criteria.
