KaBOOM! Community Playgrounds
KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to saving play for America’s children by creating great playspaces through the participation and leadership of communities. KaBOOM! believes that community-inspired play spaces bring change for families and communities across the country.
A Build it with KaBOOM! grant provides the facilitation and support of an experienced Project Manager as community members embark on a 5–12 week planning process. After selection, all partners will join together for a community Design Day, inviting play experts (the kids) to design their dream playspace. Next, a six-hour community day will transform the community space to include a permanent play structure (equipment will be ordered by your Project Manager from Playworld Systems, Inc.) as well site enhancements that will make the space 100% unique to your community.
Amount: KaBOOM’s funding partners cover the majority of the cost for the overall project. KaBOOM! requires that the community partner who is awarded the grant contribute funding towards the project. Typically, the community’s contribution is $8,500, but this can vary based on the project size.
Eligibility: Municipalities and nonprofits serving children of playground age (approximately 2-12 years old). Albuquerque is a priority city; while other locations in New Mexico are not listed as priority areas, they are still eligible to apply.
Note: KaBOOM prefers to receive applications by November 13, but this deadline can be extended if necessary.
