New Mexico Department of Transportation: Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities & Rural Public Transportation

The New Mexico Department of Transportation is accepting letters of intent from organizations interested in applying for one of two Federal Transit Administration (FTA) programs:

  • Section 5310 Program: Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities. This program provides capital grants to assist private non-profit organizations and, under certain conditions, public agencies, to provide safe, efficient, and coordinated transportation services for seniors and individuals with disabilities for whom public transportation is otherwise unavailable, insufficient, or inappropriate.
  • Section 5311 Program: Rural/Non-Urbanized Public Transportation. This program provides administrative, operating, and capital funding assistance for rural public transportation in rural areas with populations less than 50,000, where many residents often rely on public transit to reach their destinations.

Amount: Varies by program and equipment needed. The Federal share of eligible capital costs may not exceed 80% of the net cost of the activity.

Eligibility: Private nonprofit organizations, governmental authorities where no nonprofit organizations are available to provide service, and governmental authorities approve to coordinate services.
