New Mexico Public Education Department: Teacher Residency PilotDeadline: June 30, 2019
The Teacher Residency Pilot is designed to promote innovation in the critical area of the educator preparation pipeline. Grants will support educator preparation programs (EPPs) to:
- Develop a teacher residency program that creates an alternative pathway to teaching for prospective educators who already have a bachelor’s degree
- Develop a residency model that will address diversity, quality, and prioritize the needs of high needs partner schools and districts with large Native American and English Learner (EL) populations
- Create a strong district-university partnership to train higher numbers of prospective teachers in a residency type setting that includes specific roles for each partner
- Create a supportive residency model that provides a clear plan on how residents and master teachers will be selected and supported
Amount: A total of up to $1,000,000 is available for fiscal year 2020. NMPED intends to award the full amount to either a single educator preparation program or a combination of multiple applicants, ideally to support each or a combination of recipients for this project. Current and continued funding is dependent upon annual legislative appropriations.
Eligibility: NMPED-approved educator preparation programs (EPPs) and alternative licensure pathways. Eligible partners are nonprofit organizations and/or New Mexico public schools or charter schools.
