NewSchools Venture Fund: Teacher Diversity Funding Opportunity
In partnership with The Walton Family Foundation, NewSchools Venture Fund will support programs focused on supporting diverse school teachers and leaders within the PreK-12 teaching profession. The Teacher Diversity Funding Opportunity will support innovative strategies and programs to advance educator diversity, including expanding the pool of applicants for recruitment efforts and new fellowships, mentorships, and other career advancement opportunities. The funded initiatives will affect teacher pipelines, hiring practices, policy development, and classroom instruction.
The goal of the Opportunity is to advance educator diversity, including recruiting new diverse teachers into the field and supporting existing teachers so they remain in the profession longer-term. It will accept programs that are:
- Recruiting new diverse teachers
- Supporting existing teachers so they remain in the field longer
- Contributing toward the goal in some other way
The Opportunity will prioritize investing in new non-profit organizations (0-2 years old) but may also invest in new initiatives (0-2 years old) at existing nonprofits. It is looking for ideas with potential to impact the teaching force at scale. The proposed project may start out serving a small handful of leaders, but there should be a path for the applicant to directly or indirectly serve hundreds or thousands of leaders. Leaders of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
Amount: A total of $3,500,000 is available to make one-year grants that range from $100,000-$200,000. After one year, ventures become eligible for additional support.
Eligibility: Tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations.
