Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation: Seeds of Native Health

The Notah Begay III Foundation’s (NB3F’s) national program, Native Strong: Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures has announced its 2016 “Seeds of Native Health” Promising Program Grant request for proposals.Through the generous support of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and their recently launched national campaign, “Seeds of Native Health”, the NB3F will provide needed investment to tribes and Native organizations working to improve nutrition and access to healthy foods for their children and communities.

The purpose of the Promising Program Grant is to:

  • Strengthen existing programs focused on childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes prevention through healthy nutrition and access to healthy foods
  • Assist communities and organizations in building their capacity to evaluate their programming
  • Assist communities and organizations in building their capacity to implement policy change

Amount: Grants of up to $40,000 each will be awarded.

Eligibility: U.S. based Native American-controlled nonprofits, federally or state recognized tribal governments or programs, or Native American community-based groups with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Applications will be accepted from throughout the U.S., however, preference will be given to applicants located in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Schools are not eligible to apply unless they have 501(c)(3) status.
