Patagonia: Media Grants Program

The Media Grants Program supports grassroots groups that also use film as a form of activism. This program funds environmental nonprofits that use media, mostly film, as a tool tightly linked to direct-action campaigns. Patagonia looks for groups using media as a strategic tool to advance a campaign that is in line with Patagonia’s general grants program, which supports work that addresses the root causes of the environmental crisis and seeks to protect both the environment and affected communities through funding work that: is action-oriented; focuses on root causes; has a clear strategy; identifies specific goals and objectives that can be effectively measured to evaluate success; builds public involvement and civic engagement; and works to build an inclusive and diverse environmental movement. For more on the general grants program see: http://www.patagonia.com/grant-guidelines.html

Media projects must outline how using media is the most appropriate avenue as a call to action for a targeted audience and how it fits into the overall strategy of the campaign efforts. The Media Grants Program funds work that:

  • Is tied to an environmental campaign
  • Goes beyond education and awareness building of the general public
  • Is designed with a call to action for a targeted audience
  • Is a tool to accomplish goals within a specific environmental campaign strategy

Amount: Grants typically range from $15,000-$30,000.

Eligibility: Tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations.
