U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service: Housing Preservation Grants
The Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) program provides qualified applicants with grant funds to assist low- and very low-income homeowners in repairing and rehabilitating their homes in rural areas. In addition, the HPG program assists rental property owners and cooperative housing complexes in rural areas in repairing and rehabilitating their units if they agree to make such units available to low- and very low-income persons. Eligible expenses include:
- Repairing or replacing electrical wiring, foundations, roofs, insulation, heating systems and water/waste disposal systems
- Handicap accessibility features
- Labor and materials
- Administrative expenses
Amount: $3,538,000 is available.
Eligibility: State and local governments, non-profit corporations including, but not be limited to, faith-based and community organizations, Federally recognized Indian tribes, and consortia of eligible entities.
Eligible areas to be served are rural areas and towns with 20,000 or fewer people and Federally recognized Tribal lands.
