Whole Kids Foundation: Honey Bee Hive Program

The Honey Bee Grant program seeks to stimulate curiosity in young people about the importance of honey beens in life and the food system, the need to understand and embrace them, and the value of caring about them. Applicants must choose one of three options:

  • Monetary grant of $1,500 to support the success of a honey bee hive educational program
  • Observation hive: equipment grant of a custom made indoor observation hive from The Bee Cause Project
  • Traditional hive: equipment grant of an outdoor top bar hive with Starter Kit from Bee Thinking

Amount: Awards are in the form of a $1,500 monetary grant or an equipment grant that also includes a small monetary grant to cover the first year of expenses.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be a nonprofit school or nonprofit children’s programming organization that works with students kindergarten through college level
  •  The honey bee hive must be used as an educational tool for students in some fashion
  •  The principal or executive director must be aware of and supportive of the honey bee hive
  • A certified beekeeper must commit to support and maintain the honey bee have as the “Bee Mentor”
  • There must be an individual at the school or organization who is designated as the “Bee Advocate”
