Dollar General Literacy Foundation: Family Literacy Grants

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 in honor of Dollar General’s co-founder, J.L. Turner, who was functionally illiterate with only a third grade education. The organization funds literacy grants in five focus areas, one of which is Family Literacy. Family Literacy Grants provide funding to family literacy service providers. Organizations applying for funding must have the following three components: (1) Adult Education Instruction; (2) Children’s Education; and (3) Parent and Child Together Time (PACT).

Amount: Up to $15,000.

Eligibility: 501(c)(3) organizations with a valid IRS tax ID; K-12 Private or Public Schools; Colleges or Universities; Public Libraries. Organizations must provide direct services and be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store (there are 62 Dollar General stores in NM). Organizations must be listed in the National Literacy Directory.
