The Hughes Foundation was established in 1991 by John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes. They are entrepreneurs with a diverse history of business activities and holdings. The Foundation approaches all of its grantmaking from the liberating spirit of the entrepreneurial business ventures that created the funds that have been placed into the Foundation trust. Major areas of support include educational programs that promote self-employment through entrepreneurship as well as other select educational and community programs.
Amount: Grants range from $400 to $15,000 and average between $3,000 to $10,000.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations with 509(a)(1)(2) or (3) and 501(c)3 status. Giving generally focuses on organizations in the Midwest and Southwest with a strong emphasis on Illinois and some giving in Taos, New Mexico.
