Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries

Deadline: December 14, 2015

The mission of the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries is to help school libraries:

  • Encourage and foster a love of reading
  • Support student learning
  • Make books and reading materials available to students who otherwise would not have access to them

The Foundation provides funds to update, extend, and diversify the book and print collections of America’s school libraries.

Amount: Grants of up to $7,000 each will be awarded. In the past, more than 200 grants have been made each cycle.

Eligibility: Public, private, parochial, charter, city, state, county, and reservation schools that serve pre-K through 12th grade in the U.S, all American territories, and Department of Defense schools in other countries. Schools must have:

  • Been operating for at least one year prior to the application.
  • A student body where 85% or more students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
  • A school library that meets the following definition: “A library is a designated space in which books and other materials are systemically classified and arranged by subject and type.” Classroom libraries or collections of books stored on rolling carts do not qualify.
  • A library with day-to-day operation that is carried out by a paid contracted staff member who is designated by the school administration as responsible for the collection, care, and use of materials housed in the library.
  • Not previously received a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.
