National Endowment For The Arts: Our Town – Arts Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Design Projects

Through Our Town, the National Endowment for the Arts will provide grants for creative placemaking projects that contribute towards the livability of communities and help transform them into lively, beautiful, and resilient places with the arts at their core. Our Town prioritizes partnerships between arts organizations and government, private, and nonprofit organizations to achieve livability goals for communities.

Our Town supports projects in two areas: 1) Arts, engagement, cultural planning, and design projects that represent the character and quality of their communities; and 2) Projects that build knowledge about creative placemaking. Applications are being accepted for arts, engagement, cultural planning, and design projects such as:

  • Arts Engagement: Supports artistically excellent artistic production or practice as the focus of creative placemaking work.
  • Cultural Planning: Supports the development of artistically excellent local support systems necessary for creative placemaking to succeed.
  • Design: Supports projects that demonstrate artistic excellence while supporting the development of places where creative activities occur, or where identity of place is created or reinforced.

Amount: Grants will be awarded at the following levels: $25,000, $50,000, $75,000, or $100,000. Up to five grants are expected to be awarded for a period of up to two years. Grants require a non-federal match of at least 1 to 1.

Eligibility: Arts and design organizations that provide services to the field and national and regional place-based industry organizations that provide technical assistance to those doing place-based work, including housing, transit, community development, environmental, and economic development organizations who wish to engage in creative placemaking activities. To be eligible, applicants must meet the Arts Endowment’s legal requirements (see more at: http://arts.gov/grants-organizations/our-town/award-administration#legal) including nonprofit, tax-exempt status, have at least a three year history of programming, and have submitted acceptable final report packages by the due date(s) for all Arts Endowment award(s) previously received.
