Theatre Communications Group: Global Connections Program

Deadline: September 13, 2017

The Global Connections program was designed by the Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Robert Sterling Clark Foundation. There are two initiatives of the program:

1. Global Connections—On the Road: This initiative will award grants to foster new relationships with international colleagues that will inspire each others’ work and aesthetics by creating opportunities for cultural exchange. On the Road applicants should consider the following:

  • Applicants must use funds to seek new relationships with artists from outside the U.S.
  • Requests for support to travel to meet with existing or previous collaborators are not eligible
  • Applications focusing solely on travel or scouting without a cultural exchange component will not be competitive

2. Global Connections—In the Lab: This initiative will award grants to further pre-existing international collaborations by supporting residencies that either advance the development of a piece or explore elements leading up to a full production. In the Lab applicants should consider the following:

  • Applicants must have a history of producing professional work or developing new work with professional artists from other countries and illustrate a previous history of working together
  • Requests for support to develop projects with new collaborators are not eligible for this initiative of the program

To date, many U.S.-based theatre organizations and individual artists have made substantial strides in learning and developing projects with colleagues abroad. As a result of this work, many require additional resources to further the relationships established from their initial travels and first encounters. In addition, TCG recognizes the importance in continuing to seed new relationships by building a solid foundation for fruitful cultural exchanges. The Global Connections On the Road and In the Lab grants are designed to meet these distinct needs.

Amount: Dependent upon initiative, as follows:

  • Global Connections—On the Road: Grants of up to $5,000 each will be awarded
  • Global Connections—In the Lab: Grants of $10,000 each will be awarded
