PB&J Family & Community Services, Cuidando Los Niños, & NACA Inspired Schools Network Each Receive $2 Million Gift From the Yield Giving Open Call

April 15, 2024 – Last month, MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving announced three of The Grant Plant’s clients: PB&J Family and Community ServicesCuidando Los Niños, and NACA Inspired Schools Network. The Yield Giving Open Call awards organizations working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States. The organizations received $2M each.

In March 2023, Yield Giving launched an Open Call for community-led, community-focused organizations whose explicit purpose is to enable individuals and families to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being through foundational resources.

“We are ecstatic and most appreciative of this award and the opportunities ahead,” said Felicia Tapia, Co-Director of PB&J Family and Community Services. “We are also grateful for the support we have received from The Grant Plant directly on this project, we couldn’t have done it without [them]! [Their] dedicated years of collaboration with PB&J have made it possible for agencies like ours to secure long-term funding for sustainability of services, AND encourage us to seek out an array of opportunities because we have [their] support. As our families say, ‘We know you have our back,’ and this makes opportunities like this possible!”

The Grant Plant’s leadership team is committed to supporting its clients in securing game-changing grants such as what the Yield Giving Open Call made available. With the vast majority of its clients based in New Mexico, The Grant Plant has made a significant economic impact on the state. In its most recent completed year, 2022, this has included securing $41 million in awarded funds and serving 58 organizations in New Mexico. TGP has helped secure more than $265 million for clients since 2003. “Building relationships with our clients in New Mexico and helping them secure the funding resources they need to do the absolutely critical work that helps our state’s families, schools, institutions, and policies succeed is at the heart of what we do. The opportunity to support these three outstanding organizations in securing this funding is meaningful to our team and our commitment to our community,” stated Erin Hielkema, Vice President, who supported PB&J with their proposal.

The Open Call received 6,353 applications and initially planned for 250 awards of $1M each. In the Fall of 2023, organizations top-rated by their peers advanced to a second round of review by an external Evaluation Panel recruited for experience relevant to this cause, and underwent a final round of due diligence. In light of the incredible work of these organizations, as judged by their peers and external panelists, the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount.
